Okay, you sound a little chubby for your height, but not grossly overweight. This is a great age for you to discipline yourself on diet and exercise so that you will not have a weight problem the rest of your life.

But also don't panic, even if you are destined to be a little heavy, that's not a statement of your worth and value and it won't affect your chances in finding the true love of your life someday. Real love has little concern for a person's weight provided it's not a life-endangering weight in which case real love would care. True friends, the ones worth keeping, don't care either. Always remember these things.

If others are making fun of your weight or making fun of anyone for any reason, remember that they are showing their own immaturity and insecurities in this ill behavior. They must put others down to make themselves feel good which means they do not already feel good about themselves no matter how they try to appear. Their words are also not a reflection on the worth and value that you truly have.

Heaviness typically results from three factors: what you eat, how much you eat, and how much exercise you do. Other things, a person's particular metabolism and certain health conditions can also influence a person's weight up or down. If you maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine and are still having weight problems of too little or too much, then you need to see a doctor.

Before you do any dieting, discuss it with your parents, doctor, or school counselor. Tell them what your plan is and ask for their approval and support, especially if achieving a healthy diet means changes in your family's eating habits. Others may not want to change and you may need to chip in on some cooking to have some alternate choices at the table.

If your school doesn't have healthy choices in the cafeteria, bring your lunch. A peanut butter sandwich (skip the jelly), an apple, and some carrot sticks is healthy and should give you enough energy to make it through the rest of the school day. Other vegetables and nuts are also good side items and there are other low-fat sandwich ideas (smoked turkey, tomato, and lettuce, very light on the mayo, for example).

Grains, vegetables, and fruits are your best bet for a healthy diet. Cut down on meats, eggs, and especially dairy products such as milk, butter, cheese, and ice cream.

Brocoli has calcium and is a wonder vegetable in other ways, it's even been proven to help fight cancer. Check the library or do some online research to discover other healthy sources of calcium. Also check on sources of iron so you can safely cut down on red meat consumption.

Cut down on any sweet fattening snacks -- cakes, cookies, candy bars -- and replace them with healthy alternatives that appeal to you whether that's a granola bar, a carrot, or sunflower seeds.

Increase vegetables, you can get lots of protein from vegetables without all the calories of meat but you will have to eat more of them (but you'll lose weight).

Nuts and beans are also great sources of protein without fat. If you decide to go meatless all together, talk to your doctor about how to compensate for essential vitamins found primarily in meat and rare in other food sources. Don't do it without knowing what you are doing first.

Notice I say cut down on these things not give them up altogether. If you are used to eating sweet snacks for example, you will fail if you try to give them up completely. Go for eating less of them, discipline yourself but do not completely deny yourself the things you like. Later if you decide you want to give up certain things altogether then take that step, but eating less of them should be the first goal.

Water is good, have a full glass with every meal and a few in between but no more than that. It's not a replacement for healthy food. Turn down all soda (even diet soda as artificial sugar is not healthy). If water gets boring, have 100% juice. Read food labels, know what you are eating or drinking and avoid added sugar if you can (fructose corn syrup, etc.).

Avoid all fast foods and oily foods. Don't substitute margarine for butter, it's all oil and just as bad. Whichever one you use, use less.

What is your exercise routine like? Who can you get to help you stick to a daily routine that includes 20 minutes or more of physical exercise? Or do you need to have the determination to push yourself on it? Don't overdo it and exhaust yourself either. Work your way up to higher levels of exercise too. Being athletic is good, but don't become fanatical about it as that has its own health risks. Strive for balance in all these things.

And again, there may be health conditions that could limit your ability to do more than a certain amount of execise, these are things you, your parents, and doctor would know or that you can be on the look out for as you increase the amount of exercise you do each day.

In disciplining yourself on food and exercise, you may find you start off okay but then fall back into old patterns. Don't be discouraged, this is a normal part of behavior change and happens to everyone who takes on the responsibility of achieving self-discipline no matter what it's related to, food, alcohol, cigarettes, and every other things that human beings can overdo. More than likely, it will take several trys and this is also why the support of others can be helpful.

Please don't try anything else stupid, starvation, diet drinks, pills, fad diets that endanger a person's life, etc. Promise me, okay?

And again don't panic and stress out about this. You'll just put pressure on yourself that will make your goals that much harder to reach. Try to "zen it' instead, calm down, relax, go slowly step by step and don't expect an overnight miracle or get worked up about not being razor thin by summertime. You've got plenty of time to live life with the body you want but first achieve the discipline to consistently maintain that body so you don't have a stressful frustrating seesaw battle with your weight going on the rest of your life like so many do.

Take care and best of luck.

Hey there!
I'm a lil older then you but im in almost the same boat. i'm15 and now weigh 135 and I use to weigh about 200. All you gatta do, is A. Drink a lot of water, it fills you up a lot faster so then you wont eat as much. B. When eating, put your fork down in between each bite. If you hold it up then you will eat more and more even if you are full. And about the excersize. It depends on what shape your in. Just try with doing little things like sit ups and pushups and jumping jacks along with stretches everynight before you go to bed and in the morning like before school or something. Start at like 10 a night then gradually add on when you feel ready but don't push yourself. And try to maybe go on casual walks or jogs. LIke when you wanna sit down and watch tv or chat online or something.. go out and jog or walk instead.

If you want anymore adive IM me or something.. I have a lot of tips for this stuff.

Good for you for realizing that this is an unhealthy and unsuccessful way to lose weight. It can actually be VERY dangerous. I'm proud of you for asking for help on how to lose weight in a safe and healthy manner.
I would reccommend eating at least three meals say. This is important b/c it keeps your metabolism working. (THe Opposite of what happens when you go on a starvation diet.) In fact, 3 to 6 small meals or snacks a day is ideal. Carrots, tuna, yogart, nuts, granola bars and fruits make great snacks. But don't just rely on these foods. It's important to eat ACTUAL meals. Start with a hearty breakfast. This kick starts your metabolism early in the day and gives you energy as well helps your mood. (I'm always sluggish and grumpy when I'm hungary. Aren't you?) Eggs are great because they're high in protein, and toast and potatoes are good because carbohydrates act as fuel for your body. And I think fruit is good with any meal. I also like oatmeal for breakfast.
The main thing to keep in mind is this: Not eating when you're hungary is not only a bad idea for losing weight, it's dangerous. Make it a point to eat three square meals a day, and just pay attention to your portion sizes, making sure you're getting all food groups in your diet, with a minimum of fats and sugars.
As far as exercise goes, start slowly and work yourself up. I like to go for a brisk walk at the end of the day. I think a 30 min. brisk walk is excellent exercise. Also, try some gently stretching. Bike riding, roller blading and dancing are also great ideas. I thik it helps to find something you enjoy doing, that doesn't feel like work. This way you're more likely to stick with it, b/c it's something you enjoy.
Well, I hope you find what you're looking for. Just be safe and use common sense. Best of luck I

Ok in the morning-two apples or oat meal, cereal with lowfat milk. Lunch-salad with anything, snack-nut trail mix, fruits, vegetables, low fat yogurt. Dinner something light like vegetables with wheat pasta. Drink plenty of water.
Try to stay away from potato, regular pasta, too much rice, butter, bread, fried food, sweets, sodas, and carbs. Exercise-walking,dancing,jumping any cardio for 30 min 4x a week is good.

Well you could by Lean Cuisene(sp.) exercise like run, jumprope, play basket ball, and if you eat something like a doughnut run it off. I would check labels before you buy things. If you can hire a trainer, go to GMC and ask for help there, they have good diet things, or ask a friend to work out with you. They might know some things about exercising and will help you with your exercises.
