She coughs so bad it makes her throat hurt. It feels like food is going down the wrong way. It seems like it happens more often.

There are a lot of reasons, one is referred to as the steakhouse syndrome it is also called schlotski ring. It is scar tissue at the bottom of the esophigus that when iritated does not allow the food or even liquid to pass into the stomach. Sometimes it will resolve itself on a temp basis,but it will reoccur until you are on the proper medication. There are other reasons and only your gastrointernologyst will be able to really determine. I would make an appointment as soon as possible.

Trouble swallowing (dysphagia). In severe cases, patients may even choke or food may become trapped in the esophagus, causing severe chest pain. This may indicate a temporary spasm that narrows the tube, or it could also be an indication of serious esophageal damage or abnormalities.

She needs to see a doctor as soon as possible.

i would have her go get some exrays this happened to my friend and she had esophogeal cancer and survived 4 months sfter diagnosis then passed
