i said i would go to a dance with this guy but i dont like him the way he likes me and i want to tell him i like him as a friend but i dont want to hurt his feelings so do i do my friend told me to make up something and tell him i cant go with him i am so confused please help me

Just be honest. He would hurt more if you led him on. Tell him that you would rather go as friends and stay that way. It's not the end of the world. Although for nice people like us, it seems it. Good luck! =]

This is a tough one because feelings can be hurt very easily. But here is my advise to you....if you are friends it would be very mean to follow your friends advise and lie to him, you should instead talk to him and tell him that you would still like to go to the dance with him but that you really want to be just friends,and if he is ok with that you will have a great time, friends are more fun at a dance anyways because you don't feel as though someone is watching your every move and you can be more yourself. If you back out you are going to feel bad and he is going to be hurt. Try looking at it from the other side.....if it was you who asked him how would you feel if he just decided not to go? Good luck!

Talk to the guy. Tell him you will only be going as friends and don't want anything more. If he can't handle that, then don't go, but don't lie or make up an excuse because of fear of hurting his feelings. You could have a lot of fun at the dance.

You really need to just tell him the truth. That might hurt his feelings but your going to hurt him worse if you dont go at all. Just go out and enjoy yourself as friends, go dance and all that good stuff, just tell him before hand that you're not feeling him the way he is feeling you and everything should be okay with that. Your friend is retarded for telling you to cancel your night just because you dont like a guy. Does this friend have a boyfriend let alone a date? Ignore her and just tell him the truth. No dont lie, a little lie turns into a bigger lie, and sooner or later it just turns into a big mess. If you dont like him, you need to tell him now, before he gets in too deep. I think you should still go to the dance with him, well because you said you would, but you need to let him know that its just as friends. Honesty is always the best. He will be ok. Jes

I would tell him that his friendship means alot to me and that I don't want to risk it by dating. I would rather have him as a friend for life.
I would tell him that you are sure glad you are going to the dance with a friend. That way he knows your intention without having to say how you really feel to his face.
You could make some statements around him like "I sure like being single" "I am glad I am not dating right now, I am not ready yet to settle down" "Boy it's tough finding someone you like, I haven't met anyone that I want to date"
Saying those statements is basically telling him how you feel without hurting his feelings.

i had the same problem for valentine's day, to make a long story short a close friend asked me to be a valentine but the feelings i felt towards him were platonic. If he is really a close friend then he will understand your feelings, so be honest with him and say i want to stay friends. If he doesn't understand then he isn't a true friend, so you should probably lose him anyway.

Next time your talking to him, say, "We're going to the dance as friends, though..right?!" If he trys to say no, then say I'd be more comfortable if we went as friends to this dance, though, so that way I can dance around with people!

No you shouldn't lie to him...if he was to find out it would hurt him even more than you telling him you only like him as a friend. Tell him the truth...tell him you are only interested in being friends and nothing more at this point in time.
