I served 7 years in the military, and its hilarious when military people on yahoo and other sites boast about themselves. The percentage of murderers, rapist, thieves, cons, pedophiles, and just all around bad people are the same in and out of the military.
Like I said I was in the military for 7 years. Only a very very small percentage of people in the military want to go to war for the country, thats just what we say to our parents and the local newspapers to get respect. The reality is your paycheck goes up by almost %50 when you go to war, and thats all we talk about. Me and other %90 werent talking about defending freedom and about our patriotic duty and all that other blah blah, we only cared about the cars we were gonna buy and the bills we were gonna pay off after we got back. So dont let these "military"people on this board talk down you because you didnt serve your country. Most of the time the only reason they retired in the military is because they were financially afraid.

yo cutty, I think you are downtalking the servicemembers. I dont know why you joined probably like me to get out the hood and make some money. But most importantly I joined cause I beleive in the rights everyone has in ths country we fight for. Money is a way to motivate you while in combat. I dont know about you but all I wanted to do was just get home and chill. Not buy cars or rims. Whats the point of making it out? A car? Not for me. I just wanted to go back home drink some drink and kick it. All the people with me cared about just that. Getting home alive. You might have not been in a combat MOS. But if you were than thats good. When your at war nothing else matters but to get home and bring everyone else your with home safe too. Sounds like you were in the rear with the gear. But our freedom is what we have all fought for. Like freedom of speech. So everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If you were "in Country" then take pride in fighting for that right and all others. Sometimes these views and opinions are not agreeable by us but everyone is entitled to an opinion. I want to retire yes for financial stability but also cause I want to be either the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps or a CWO5. And be able to say I did it. I love the military. So I hope you feel me on this.
PEACE!!!!

You are painting with a very broad brush. Because you and some of your buds were in it for the money sure doesn't mean that everyone else is. I know lots of guys that could do much better on the outside but choose a career of service instead. I also know lots of guys that volunteered for duty in Iraq becuase they thought it was the right thing to do not becuase they'd get a little more pay.

Oh yeah, 26 years and counting and could be making much more if I'd have gotten out a long time ago.

I am happy you got the chance to "vent" but not all are in for the money. Reality, military pay is alot lower than the same job as a civilian. It just takes special kind of person to stay in the miltary. some people just aren't cut out for it. Today, its a personal choice...no draft. And going to war is not all that the military is about. There are alot more servicepersonel in the states, not at war, than there are in a war zone.

Sorry, but you are DEAD wrong about MOST of the people. I served just over 8 years active duty. Got out, got a good paying job and joined the guard. We DO do it for love of country. If you are only doing it for the money, you're not right in the head. We don't make THAT much over there compared to the outside. It's not about the money. It's about doing your job and serving your country. But then again, it's just this vets opinion.
