I have personally taken trazodone that was several years old and it still worked fine. Not that I'm recommending it. But keep in mind that drug companies put expiration dates on their products partly to force you to buy more. That doesn't mean they don't expire, only that the drug companies cannot be expected to tell the complete truth about how long drugs remain OK to take.

If you are scheduled for a drug screen test anytime soon, bring your prescription bottle with you. Just explain “I was prescribed this, and took one dose on Feb. 9th, to help me sleep. I hadn’t realized it was beyond 6 months already.” Any test following that will confirm what you are saying is true, so long as it IS true. Just don’t take any more, and if you still need Trazodone, go back to the prescribing doctor - having a new scrip will save your butt. BUT, I have no idea just how strict their 6-month policy is. If it’s written in stone, you may just be out of luck. I would guess there would have to be SOME leeway, but I’m not the military. >

Typically after a year from the dispense date. It starts to break down and lose it potency. Trazodone should actually be taken on a daily basis for it to be effective, so there shouldn't be any concern. Unless it was prescribed as a sleep aide.

Roughly a year from the date of issue. There should be an expiration date on the bottle.
