Dang, these people hate Jeeps I work at a dealership I've seen the straight 6 with 500,000 miles the 4.7 with 180,000 and we even had one with a Hemi come in the other day that had 195,000 with no problems exept an occational tranny sensor. And yes they make the 5-speed in every year they made the Cherokee. They are rare and most are 2-doors. I've seen maybe 2 in the past six months. Good luck finding one.

The Jeep Cherokee XJ was made from 1984-2001. Most of them did have four doors and yes some did have a manual transmission. Search around in your local newspaper, auto trader mags, and even eBay. If all else fails find one with a bad auto trans and convert the thing. Should get it pretty cheap.
The person with the comment about them using oil at around 125 miles is nuts. It depends on the person driving and taking care of the vehicle.

Of i were you i would not buy a jeep if its a Grand Cherokee limited v8. My 2001 Grand Cherokee Limited 2wd had its first motor replaced in Feb 2003 costing 4890.00 for the motor and 1400.00 labor NOT covered under the 100000 mi bumper to bumper warranty because i couldnt get them EVERY oil change reciept. April 2006 burned a valve in the NEW motor that was covered up to 30,000 miles and yes you guessed it, I was at 38,000 miles so it wasnt covered. The jeep is currently sitting in a shop cause Friday, I blew a head gasket. 1500 more. However, the straight 6 cyl i had in my previous 2 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo's were awesome automobiles. WANT MY JEEP CHEAP?

I believe in the late 90's they stopped putting manual transmissions in the Jeep Cherokee's.
