I have always wondered if the real reson is because it may interefere with the electronics when calculating how much petrol you are putting in your car

More unnecessary government rules and regulations. They also say that you can't leave your engine running because it will cause a explosion. When I lived in Massachusetts back in 1960 we used to leave the engine running while fueling during the winter. We never ha a problem. I guess the government thinks they changed the makeup of gasoline.

this is true but rare there has been reports of this happening. It has something to do with the the static from the phone which is passed on to your hand and your hand touches the pump it ignites

they use charged up electric batteries which can spark. If there are too many petrol fumes, it can set off an explosion
Its not the using it, its the starting is up to use it- buttons and flicking through menues...etc

they rekon it might cause a spark and blow the place up its complete bollox tho the engine starting causes a spark 4 god sake. I have also filled my car up with da engine running and my m8 has and it didnt go bang maybe i was doing something wrong

for the same reason you cant
leave the car engine running
leave head lights on
use matches & lighters
use jump leads on a fore court
and its against the law which can inpose heavty fines

Supposedly, there is a risk of static electricity setting of the fuel... but Mythbusters pretty much proved that this isn't so...

because there is static electricity but i don't believe it i always use my phone and nothing has happened to me, well we should not start our cars either because it has spark plugs and it has an igniter in it i don't believe them
