I know it says that mountains hold the earth in place...which is equally false....

YUSUFALI: And He has set up on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you;

Artist: Mountains as stabalizers has no scientific basis... Mountains are caused by plates colliding much like earthquakes....Fault lines and mountain ranges coincide, you are simply misled or lying....
The full name of the book you're quoting from is called "The Geological Concept of Mountains in the Qur'an" which is hardly the title of a nonbias scientific source...

No. It absolutely does not, it mentions plate techtonics and the stabilizing nature of mountains for planet Earth. Which is scientifically true.

Earth's Movement: A Scientific Miracle

[27:88] When you look at the mountains, you think that they are standing still. But they are moving, like the clouds. Such is the manufacture of GOD, who perfected everything. He is fully Cognizant of everything you do.

[78:6] Did we not make the earth habitable?

[78:7] And the mountains stabilizers?

[16:15] And He placed stabilizers (mountains) on earth, lest it tumbles with you, as well as rivers and roads, that you may be guided.

Likewise the modern theory of plate tectonics holds that mountains work as stabilizers for the earth. This knowledge about the role of mountains as stabilizers for the earth has just begun to be understood in the framework of plate tectonics since the late 1960's (Geological Concept of Mountains p. 5).

Could anyone during the time of the prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, have known of the true shape of mountains? Could any one imagine that the solid massive mountain which he sees before him, actually extends deep into the earth and has a root, as scientists assert? A large number of books of geology when discussing mountains, only describe that part which is above the surface of the earth. This is because these books were not written by specialists in geology. However, modern geology has confirmed the truth of the Qur'an's verses.

Peace be Upon You.
