Try wetting your hair with water and then add gel. It should work.

Blow dry damp hair forward, styling it forward until it dries as desired. Once dry, try running a little stylist wax, not gel, gently over top to ensure hair does not frizz and change direction before lightly spraying with hairspray.

Blow dry it forwards, and straighten it forwards if you can, then part it how you like. That will give you the 'emo' sideswept fringe i think you sound like you're after.
Dont use hair gel on long hair, it just dosnt work.

curling iron it straight, or use a flat iron. A flat iron looks like a curling iron but is flat.

or moose/gel it and blow dry it straight then wet it just enough to comb it forward.

i cant think of any more currently.

its a show, not a fashion show. i remember when shows were for the music and not the stupid clothes and hair. we wore t shirt and jeans and thats it, no spikey hair, no necklaces, or freakin converse all stars, or ridiculous make up that would just get sweat off by the middle of the opening act. ugh. cant wait til the next round of boy bands or rap so kids stop going to shows

It always works if you blow dry it that way. I do it to my brothers all the time. have your hair wet. blow dry it upside down in the directions you want it while hairspraying every so often. also garnier spritz gel thing works too.

Well i personally would try wetting it and then covering it in gel and then smothering it in hairspray.
