After 5 long years! Why do you want to call him and keep in touch again?
Ask yourself, "What do you want to achieve by so doing?"
Let Life runs it's own course; and carry on with your own life instead. Who knows you might soon be standing on a bridge over running water if you decided to keep in touch with him again; since life would have changed for both of you after these long five years.
It's best to let it be. In this way, you may perhaps achieve more peace and happiness. As for him he may also be living a happy and peaceful life.
In this case, if it's curiosity you're looking for; it might bring you unwanted happiness.
Wishing you love and happiness in your present moment of life!!

Seeing you want to get in touch with him again, you have to realize that five years is a long time.
He could be engaged, married, have kids etc. All depending on his age.
He may barely remember you, who knows. I would suggest an E-mail if you have his address, just to say, "Hi, I was thinking of you and wanted to know how you were doing"
Then go from there, just don't expect it to be all wine and roses.

Ask yourself why you would call someone you might not even know anymore. If you still want to do it..go ahead. Just be prepared to get a response you might not want.
