A doctor undergoes full medical training which includes lot of things like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry etc. etc and hence supposed to know things inside out. They are expected to tackle complex situations.
A paramedic is trained for particular situations and are permitted to work under fixed protocol or guidance. However some are very experienced and with extensive training, can take more independent decisions.

well its a big difference for sure . a medic is trained in advanced first aid . they also are trained in the use of a limited number of medications. the medic may not preform surgery or give any medication that is not part of there training . the medics do play a very vital role in the saving lives. the job of the medic is to stabilize the patient for transport to the hospital for further treatment . they are also suppose to monitor vital signs and report there observations to the hospital staff.
the doctors job goes well beyond that . they are there to treat both short term emergency cases and solve long term problems such as repairing a leg fracture. they would if needed operate on the person to repair the leg. this is one example of how they treat things that could be left for a period of time with out the patient dying. they have a huge amount more education then the medic and most have been in university 3 or 4 years for a bachelor degree in something most often a science or medical field . then 4 or 5 years more for the medical degree. then another 3 years internship then 2 to 5 more years learning a specialty.
the medic most often has 2 to 3 years of college level training.

Basically, a doctor is a medical professional with advanced education and training. He or she is trained to diagnose and treat any disease, illness, or injury. A doctor can specialize in any area, from family medicine to advanced surgery specialties. A doctor has no one to answer to or report to except himself. He or she is the ultimate authority in patient care and treatment.

A paramedic is a medical professional who's trained to work in the specific field of prehospital emergency medicine. He or she is trained to provide life saving, stabilizing care, and transport to the appropriate hospital. Paramedics are the ones who ride the ambulances :) Paramedics can make independent decisions regarding patient care, but they usually follow protocols established by their supervising doctor, and when they want to deviate from those protocols, they need to ask permission.

Paramedics get about 2 years of training, while doctors get 8-10 years of training.

Paramedics make an average of $40,000 a year, while doctors make at least $100,000 a year.

Doctors carry their own independent medical license, while a paramedic's license is actually an extension of the supervising doctor's medical license.

Paramedics are trained only in the field of prehospital emergency medicine, while doctors can specialize in any field.

I've heard it put this way - A paramedic is an expert in his field - prehospital care - while the average doctor is usually an expert in everything else related to medicine, but knows little about prehospital emergency care.

Hope this helps...

Paramedics still make house calls...

And save your life on the spot.

They report to a doctor the whole time, so they're like the doctor's eyes and ears in the field.

A doctor can be a paramedic (doctor is just a generic term for most medical people) but paramedics are usually the guys you see in ambulances. They have a lot of first aid and emergency trauma and shock training.

A paramedic has a certification and could pass written and lab checks. one will be a ambulance driver with a lot less preparation. there is also a distinction between an EMT and a Paramedic. The EMT has a lot less skills and preparation and can't provide injections and such.
