how would you like it if a girl that likes you ( but you didn't know it) tried something you like so it would be a way to get closer to you. i kind of did something like that, is it alright?

It's alright. As long as you are having fun and not suffering or anything it's a great way to show interest in him and his hobbies.
It is extremely rude, however, to join him in his hobby and then compain about how boring, etc.. it is or begin to show your loss of interest in it. (You'd be amazed how many times this type of thing happens). Only do things together you will enjoy, and if you DO begin to lose interest it is perfectly acceptable to tell him you don't have as much patience as he does for the activity in question and meet him another time.

It is cool and sweet... to know that someone likes you is a great feeling and knowing that someone did something special to be with you.... I would go out with you in a second

yes it is cool and sweet, but also even if you don't get to be with the guy you may find other things you like
