Jihad is just an arabic word meant to characterize the Aya's in the Quran that use present tense language (non-story language) to command (commandments) upon Muslims a duty to murder the unbelievers. Thats it.
Notice how people who try to claim it means something else cant offer any support? Wheres the aya that says "Jihad is a struggle with self"? In fact, show me anything in the Quran that details a "struggle with self".
Most people know this, but essentially hope that their pacifist definition will take root. I too would love it if we could redefine Islam, however, is the course the best course or just wishful thinking that disguises the real problem and thus makes a real solution impossible?
Jihad todays abbreviation for the infamous Islamic doctrine formerly known as "The House of Islam and the House of war".

WIKIPEDIA "In Islamic theology and legal interpretations, the ultimate aim of Islam is to bring the whole world under the dominion of Islam. Accordingly each part of the world is given a descriptive status to delineate its current state in regards to the aims of Islam and to define the permissible conduct of Muslims in those regions."
