Jihad is just an arabic word meant to characterize the Aya's in the Quran that use present tense language (non-story language) to command (commandments) upon Muslims a duty to murder the unbelievers. Thats it.

Notice how people who try to claim it means something else cant offer any support? Wheres the aya that says "Jihad is a struggle with self"? In fact, show me anything in the Quran that details a "struggle with self".

Most people know this, but essentially hope that their pacifist definition will take root. I too would love it if we could redefine Islam, however, is the course the best course or just wishful thinking that disguises the real problem and thus makes a real solution impossible?

Jihad todays abbreviation for the infamous Islamic doctrine formerly known as "The House of Islam and the House of war".

WIKIPEDIA "In Islamic theology and legal interpretations, the ultimate aim of Islam is to bring the whole world under the dominion of Islam. Accordingly each part of the world is given a descriptive status to delineate its current state in regards to the aims of Islam and to define the permissible conduct of Muslims in those regions."

Jihad means struggle. weather that be the struggle of a women pregnant, the struggle of a women with her daughter in law, going to work is jihad also, So every man on this planet has a jihad. so does it mean you and I are Jihadist's? of course it does. Oh you feel bad is it? Just think that the media that is circulated around America and the so called patriot act binded "free world" is lying to you, and everything will be all right.

Heres a good example of the word in a sentence

Again showing your knowledge of Islam to be minuscule. Nothing new there then.
Try verse no.73, surah no.9 "the repentance"
Jihad has 4 different meanings. Shall i spell them out for you? OK.
1 Jihad against oneself.
2 Jihad by example.
3 Jihad by call and guidance.
4 Jihad by war.
Jihad in war being defending oneself against those who attack you.
Tell me before 9/11 which we all know was an inside job, did you think or care about Muslims thoughts or actions at all? I highly doubt it. If you think we are all extremists and suicide bombers that is your perogative does not make it a truth. You are welcome to your ingorance. Its a shame you are trying to convince others to join you in your ignorant bliss.

I've heard people use the word to mean a personal struggle, but whether or not it can be supported, the word has become tainted.

As an atheist, rather than see religion constantly redefined, as you mentioned, I'd rather the whole charade was just ditched.

Very different to what the Prophet Mohammad said...Spread peace and Love throughout the world.
Christianity also says 'Love your enemies' yet the pope started a Holy war. Was the Pope also an Islamic fanatic?

Sounds just like you Christians and "Crusade" which also means a war to slaughter unbelievers. I'm not sure if there was ever a Jewish word of similar denotation and connotation but the concept has been around since Jericho.
