My kitten has horrible gas... is there anything I can do to help alleviate the situation?

Should have added - he is an indoor cat who eats NO human food, doesn't even drink milk. We have tried various brands of cat food. He is very active and very healthy and he does his business in his litter box regularly... he just has excessive gas!

I think the mostly likely reason is that in spite of your trying different foods, you still haven't found one that agrees with him.

Poppy had loose stools and a bit of gas for all of her two years. Iams gave her the worst gas. I also had to experiment to find one that she could tolerate relatively well.

My vet also explained that kitten foods are richer and that she had what he called "kitten stomach."

Turns out he was wrong - her "kitten stomach" and loose stool lasted until I switched her to a good quality, all canned food diet.

I haven't boned up on kitten foods, but I'll link in some very good articles on cat nutrition. I recommend switching either to feeding raw or at least a good canned food. If you get the kitten used to that now, you won't have to fight to convert him later.

My cat used to have the same problem as a kitten. She got a little better when I switched from regular Purina to Purina One. (They probably have one specifically for sensitive stomachs but I've never tried that one.) But she really improved when I started giving her hairball medicine, Laxatone, which my vet prescribed. It's great because she only has a hairball like once a year now. It's possible your kitten may just outgrow it.

We had the same problem with one of our indoor dogs. We did not feed her any scraps, and tried a few different brands of food. Nothing worked. I mentioned it to my vet one day, who said I could give her 1/2 of a Beano. This has helped tremendously. I would check with your vet and make sure that you can give this to cats also, before actually doing it.

LOL. sorry I have no answer, and the poor kitty probably hates life right now, but I had to laugh. It sounds like its may have had some vegetable in its food, or ate something on the ground that causes gas like cabbage or something similar.

Sometimes the changing of the food you give him/her will give them gas. Try one type of food and keep him/her on it without changing it. It should subside. If not, I would suggest you take him/her to a vet and get checked. He/She could have intestinal problems.

there just maybe nothing you can do.
my cat has god awful gas as well, so i feel your pain. i really do. haha. but our vet said there isnt anything wrong with him, he just farts. so maybe its just a reaction to whatever. if you are seriously worried, ask your vet to check him out. but it could just be nothing more than farts. :)

It sounds like a change of diet is in order....

Or let her go outside to 'do her job'.
