First off, we are not religious... does that preclude us from speaking about the "what if's" of heaven....anyway he wanted to know what my heaven would look like.....I could only describe a sense of peace, well being, a sense that I will have completion, no stress... just floating about somewhere watching the world below me, possibly messing with those still on earth, but for the most part just a sense of calm... Needless to say he was dissappointed in me; I got the feeling that he wanted me to describe Disneyland, and it got me thinking... how do people view their heaven?

I knew I'd get flak from those that regard their "heaven" as something that can only be accessed by one who "believes"in the stories told in the religous books... but for those of us that do believe in a spirtual realm,. and believe that you do not have to preach/pray/or agree with the "written word" the is still a heaven.. no it may not be "your" heaven.... I do not need a church to accept me to believe that there is an afterlife... just wanted to know the thoughts of others... I do not claim that my athiest sould will be in your christian heaven. It was just a conversation with a 12 year old.. not the battle of religions; right or wrong.

Revelation tells you all about it. You're not religious yet heaven is a purely Judeo-Christian idea. Now the idea of an afterlife is fundamental to many religions. However, I don't see how you can not be religious and believe in a heaven. Seems contradictory. I'd suggest becoming Christian because that's the only way you'll see heaven, but if that's not for you I'm not like going to run after you with a pitchfork :). Heaven isn't , "When I die I'm going to heaven and it's going to be like Disneyland," and then for another person it's, "Heaven is going to be like a big box of chocolates." There are absolute truths, and what heaven is like is one of them. Hope that helps.

This is a good question. In Luke 17:20 Jesus says “It (heaven) will not come with observation. You will not say ‘lo here, or lo there’ for the kingdom is within you”. The gospel of Thomas says the same thing. In fact, Jesus never says exactly what it is, all he says is “It is like..., or, it can be compared to...” The place in the clouds is an unfortunate part of the folklore of religion. All people can enter heaven, whether you are “religious” or not.

First of all, no, you are not preclued from wondering about heaven. Your religion, or lack thereof, is not a prerequisite.
Second, No one I have met has ever seen heaven and lived to tell about it. (lol) However, my heaven is a place where everything and everyone is perfect, while still being unique in their individuality. Everything is fantastically beautiful, and there is nothing but happiness and joy.
Heaven is not a place to be lazy; we will continue to work. But work will be more like play than work, and we will do it out of thankfulness to be there. We will continue to use our creativeness to enhance the already breathtaking beauty of the place. I look forward to it, and hope to see you and your family there.

My heaven is where Jesus lives. More than anything right now, I want to feel His arms around me and see His beautiful eyes and His perfect smile. I believe that I will go to sleep and wake up sitting in the lap of my Jesus. As for the actual city of God, nothing I imagine will be as beautiful, I'm sure.

I'd have to say that heaven is an actual place. I think heaven looks just like earth (before we humans screwed it up). I guess I think of nature, serenity. I think that animals are in heaven. Oh, and chocolate of course :) I agree with your son: I'd be disappointed if I was "floating" somewhere.

i think my idea of heaven is more like positive energy. i would want to be part of that part of everyone that is still magical. you know, like whatever energy is responsible for mother's intuition, how a dad can say "it's gonna be okay" and his daughter will believe him, and the way a child can tell when you're sad even if you haven't said so? i think that would be a pretty cool way to spend eternity, being part of all those moments when humans actually remember their humanity.

I don't know what it looks like but it feels like love.
Several years ago I had an unusual experience concerning an uncle, a distant relative who lived over a thousand miles away.
While driving my car I suddenly felt the unmistakable presence of this relative that I hardly even knew. He was more like someone I had heard about than someone I knew. It was very strange; it felt as though I was momentarily lifted right out of my physical body. I seemed to be suspended somehow beyond space and time, bathed in a love so intense It felt like I could have just disappear into it at any moment if It would have let me. It only lasted for a few seconds, but it seemed to last forever at the same time. I realize how crazy this must sound. The experience was so strong that at first I was afraid I was loosing my grip on reality. I finally managed to chalk it up to an over active imagination.
Three days later I got a call from my aunt telling me that this uncle we are talking about had gone into a coma and died the day I had the experience. It felt like ice water had been poured down my back when she told me this. I had lost any real ideas of God or faith and had become somewhat of an atheist. Needless to say this experience caused me to rethink some of the conclusions I had come to.
I feel blessed to now understand that even in our darkest confusion something loves us so much that it went out of its way to assist me and bring me back to a state of absolute certainty about Gods love for us.
During the experience it seemed like there was a vast amount of information that I was somehow allowed access to. One thing that I came away from this experience understanding beyond any shadow of a doubt was that any Idea that God is unhappy with us or would judge or allow us to be punished for any reason is simply impossible.
I can’t explain the love I felt with words. They simply don’t make words big enough or complete enough to do this. The only way I can begin to convey this love to you is to say that there was simply nothing else there. Nothing but love. No hint of judgment, no displeasure of any sort. It is as though God sees us as being as perfect as we were the day we were created. It is only in our confused idea of ourselves that we seem to have changed.
I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck. Love and blessings.
Your brother don

I already know what "heaven" will look like.
As I died, and was brought back. It was the most beautiful place I had ever seen. Believe me I wanted to stay. But I was brought back.
But now I do not fear death, because I know
what is waiting for me.

i believe in the realms of spirit
and i am told these realms are much like this life here , but with the qualities you spoke about ( calm , peace , free from physical struggles ) and in beautiful colour and surroundings
there are halls of learning , music halls , jobs , hobbies etc
but we do these things for our own development ... not because we need pay or someone tells us to

The appearance of crystal above and a sea of glass below.
Ezekiel 1:22 And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above.
Revelation 15:2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
