As far as I can remember, when I hear the sound of jets, I look up and there always seems to be a 777 or somekind of other twin engine jet. I NEVER see a 747. This is in Bellevue, WA. WHY?
Besides, the factory that creates 747s isn't so far off and the nearest airports have 747s..........

There are more orders for the 777 than the 747 right now. Therefore more 777 will come off the assembly line than the 747. Just as a previous person wrote, airlines are buying more of the 777 because the twin engine aircraft has a lower operating cost than the 4 engine aircraft. If you ever look at how many aircraft Boeing delivered for the month or the quarter, you will see that most deliveries are the 737 and 777.

The main reason for this is the prices of fuel for example if you were a airline carrier and you had the choice of boeing 747 or Boeing 777 both travel the same crusing speed but the 777 travels the distance on less fuel then sure all of us would use the 777 as well most airlines have stared fading away from the 747 and most newpurcahes of aircraft is the airbus 330 and 380 and the boeing 777, both boeing and airbus is relasing a new air craft soon and many have put in orders also just a matter of the market changing . as newer and better things come availble they tend to take over. hope this answered your question.

This is because there are very few 747 operators in the US. The only US operators are United and Northwest. You see 777s because many airlines operate aircraft like the 777, 767, and 757.

Because most of them fly overseas and not over the Mainland US. Keep looking up, you are bound to see one sooner or later. Flying in one is a blast. Being next to one as it is taxing up to the terminal is amazing. It really makes you appreciate how big the thing is. Not to mention wonder how the thing flies being so heavy.
