yea all you need is an ID that can prove you are over the age of 21 and most people have a license so it just works. if you notice it doesn't say you need a license it says no ID no sale

You don't need a driver license you need a picture ID. Here in Cali you can obtain a state ID that has your picture and date of birth. You can also use a passport to purchase liquor.

You don't "need" a driver's license to buy liquor. If you don't have one, you can use a state ID....then you can walk home.

You need a picture ID that shows what you look like, and lists your age and height so that it can be verified that it is you. Driver's liscenses just happen to be the most common form of ID that meet this criteria. In someplaces passports are no longer being accepted because of insufficient information.

Presumably because having a driving licence indicates that you have reached a certain age [in this case the age at which you may legally purchase alcohol].
The document is merely used as proof of age. You shouldn't try to connect the two and drink and drive.
I assume you are from the USofA?

Age verification. Can use other things like passports or gov't issued I.D's
I'm in a college town though and they won't take passports since they aren't skilled on knowing if they are fake or not.
Some id's scan too and its the easiest way for them to know if its a fake or not. Thats why liscenses are ideal

That's getting to be a very old, bad joke.
You don't...just a form of ID to prove you're of legal drinking age...duh. No wait, the "duh" comes in when you consider that most people who are old enough to drink are old enough to drive, too. What more convenient ID is there but...wait for it...
your driver's license...so, DUH!!!
What's worse is that some joker thinks they're original every time this joke is repeated...

All you need is a government issued ID. A driver's license is usually what people carty. You can use a passport, regular state issued ID cart...among other forms of "government issued ID"
