Well, I'm thinking of getting a new computer with it preinstalled so it should work.

The manufacturers don't give you a hard copy of the OS? Is this true? Can someone confirm this?

I would never, on my life, get a Dell! (Nor Gateway, and probably not HP either!)

The best computers to get (if you must buy one and not have one made for you) are Toshiba (especially notebooks), Sony, eMachines, or Apple (If you want a different OS to work).

Very nice smoother efficient but it has issues with older stuff and hates dos based programs takes a LONG time to upgrade and the four flavors it offers is reasonable. I like the way it handles programs and the photo editor is pretty good on you bottom bar if you move over it with your mouse it will pop up a brief display so you can see what you are working on (instead of opening and closing windows). Love the resource meter and new games (chess, majong) and updates on minesweeper, hearts, and soiltaire (both versions). If your system can handle the Vista go for it.

The disk you get is a recovery disk with the vista in it. (chances are you will get just puny home basic (wich is bare bones vista) demand a better vista like home plus or ultimate. You will NOT get a copy of Vista this way sorry but that is how it works now a days.

I asked a similar question earlier. The only thing I noticed is it does make the PC run a bit slower. It has some really cute features though. The OS does not come with it if you are getting it from Dell. They send you a CD for upgrading...hmmm.

Everyone hated XP when it came out too. I am sure there will be some glitches along the way as I learn more about it. However, I am not really doing anything spectacular on it.

I am still learning all the features, but I don't see anything horribly wrong with it. Since it will probably come with Virus protection, don't worry. But so far, I like it.

Having ran Vista since it's release candidate days and finally getting the final product I have to say that I am very impressed with the way the OS handles. The Interface is nice and smooth and for it being just released it is very stable compared to other OS launches. It does require a lot of power to run though. I had to upgrade to 2GB of RAM just to make sure that I had it covered but my 2.8GHz P4 processor and graphics card were just fine. I also ran the upgrade advisor before upgrading. All in all I think it's a really good operating system and Microsoft launched some neat features in it. Searching within folders instantly is an awesome feature that I was waiting for. Again my opinion is give it a shot. I think that you will like it.

Its garbage, and DRM is rediculous. Stupid MS, all they had to do was copy the features of any linux distro and they would have had something at least as good as OSX 10.4. But know, they spend 5 years making a lesser OS, with new features no one really needs, and DRM.

My advice, buy an apple computer. But if you must get vista, pre installed on a PC is the way to go, or at least get yourself a copy of the CD. The fact that PC manufactures dont give you the hard copy of the software, is total B+S

I hope it is okay. I just ordered a new computer last night that comes with Windows Vista- I didn't want it, I wanted to wait a year or so until they fixed the kinks- but I couldn't do that. I am going to keep an eye on this question to see what everyone else says.

Windows Vista has a lot of the newer programs installed already, but there are still quite a bit of problems. Someone I know had problems with the computer with Windows Vista and she had to download everything onto discs and install it over again....

Just type "vista problems" in the Search for questions box above.
