Im 18 & sr in hs, i was thinking about trying for baseball, but i don't know if it's worth it. I've had very bad luck with sports (couldn't play soccer this year cause of an injury) & went out for baseball as a soph just to be the last one cut (literally the last since the jv coach couldnt decide & kept me an extra tryout just end up cutting me). Then he said the reason was cause the Vars coach didnt think i would make it, but now that same JV coach is on varsity, & he seemed to at least think i had some talent since he kept me & was the last cut.

However, I didnt play last year or tryout, & there's a lot of politics w/ sports as you're expected to play in private summer leagues (basically the seniors are already picked). That coach seemed to like me, particularly as a fielder (which means i would have to practice a lot on hitting)

Is it worth being cut again just to see what might happen, or keep some dignity from these sports/politics(& not leave hs as the 1 who was cut)?

Of course, you'll have to make your own decision on this. However, if I were you, I would (to use your words) "leave with dignity" and take my talents elsewhere, perhaps you should look into a private or public city league or team. The opportunities for sports are surely wider than just playing for the high school team, right?

it sounds like it gives you a lot of stress and you have a tough time dealing with that stress so i don't know. however, being cut from a sports team is not the worst thing that can happen to you and always remember that even Michael Jordan's JV coach cut him in the 10th grade. not to compare you to MJ but just to give you a sense that even the greatest among us have a sense of defeat at some point and you can use the sting of loss as a fuel for victory in other endeavors. i would say that should you try out and succeed the reward will be incredibly sweet. i would encourage you to try out again; be the first one at practice and stay hours after the last person has left hitting balls in the batting cage and taking fielders with a friend. show the coach that he HAS to have you on the team because you're the hardest worker he has. plus maybe you're bigger stronger and more coordinated now with two additional years on you. if doesn't select you it's okay. channel those energies into something you're more gifted at, or into your studies, become wealthy and buy your own baseball team... whatever you decide, best wishes and good luck dude.

I don't know much about sports, but I can tell you a bit about personal dignity.

You sound concerned about what other people think. I've been out of high school for only four years, and no one really cares about who played what anymore. It's true. People forget this stuff quickly... They'll probably remember the jerky coaches before they remember you as "the one who was cut."

What people are more apt to remember is whether you were a nice guy. And I'm sure you are. Keep it up!

If you love to play, try. It's about you and what you like to do. Don't let the opinions of others hold you back.

Best of luck, whatever you do! Enjoy your senior year.

You will never know unless you try. Not trying out is the easy way out. Keep in mind in college you can also try out as a walk on. The politics of life with be there be it in school or work. You have to learn to live with it.

You can do it. Try out if you'd like to play and if you get cut, which I doubt, big deal.... anyone who would put you down is not worth knowing anyway as only loosers put others down.
Take care.
