Many dog treats and prepared foods contain liver so it may surprise you to find liver on the bad foods list. In small amounts liver is good for your dog, but if the liver intake is too high it can cause nutritional problems because liver has a high content of vitamin A. Consumption of this vitamin in large amounts can lead to vitamin A toxicity, or hypervitaminosis A. If your dog eats raw liver or consumes three servings of cooked liver a week it could lead to bone problems. Feeding liver to a dog taking Vitimin A supplements can lead to an overdose of Vitamin A.

Symptoms of hypervitaminosis A are deformed bones, excessive bone growth on the elbows and spine, weight loss and anorexia. If left unchecked, hypervitaminosis A has in some cases caused death.

My dogs all get a raw beef marrow bone each week, don't ever give them bones that have been cooked as they splinter! Liver isn't really bad for dogs but if fed in large amounts can have a laxative effect, again my dogs get liver once or sometimes twice a week.

To the person who says don't feed raw meat/bones to dogs as they get a taste for blood, you talk utter rubbish!!! and obviously don't know anything about dogs.

I personally do not like giving dogs raw meat, but if you do just freeze the bones for at lease 24 hours before you give them to the dog (the freezing kills most of the bacteria, plus feeding it while still frozen makes it last longer). Liver (cooked) is okay for dogs as long as the do not get a whole lot of it. The reason that it is not good for them in large doses is because the liver is the filter of the body, so when the dog eats it they are eating all of the toxins in it.

Liver isn't bad for dogs but does need to be fed sparingly..no more then once a weekm and in small amounts. Liver is actually a good organ meat to feed.

Raw beef bones are great for dogs...they are a natural chew item. Make sure to never cook them..it will make them brittle and cause splintering.

No, just make sure that you are around when they have the bones to stop any fights that might break out (dogs find bones very tasty and can get posessive)
Liver like all things, good in moderation - bad in excess.

Nope giving raw bones of any kind is no problem at all, it is actually best for them. Liver is not bad just do not give too much because it is very rich and can sometimes cause diarrhea.

No nothing's wrong, raw chicken or beef bones are good for dogs, don't cook them however because they could splinter in the dogs throat & so on.

I'm not sure about the liver thing, sorry..

I don't know why people say liver is bad for dogs but you can go to dominonicks, you can buy these bones with all this extra chunks of liver or something and you could buy that, but your going to have to shave A LOT of extra chunks because i think it is bad for your dogs. And it helps your dogs teeth get hard and in place and a little shiny. You should try them.[trust me,they work.]GOOD LUCK!!!!

Raw bones are absolutely great for dogs, But the liver has not got any nutrients in it and has adverse effects with their immune system if given too often, its ok but not more than once a fortnight.

I think liver gives them gastric disturbances...(the Sh*ts!)

Raw meat Bones is ok, but be very careful about dog poop, as that is Worm City....Yep, I have seen dogs eat their own or other dog's doo-doo....THAT's where You make sure your dog doesn't stray outside!

So, go ahead with the bones, and avoid public dog spots if you can.....
