If he existed at all, in that time and place, people tended to be either Roman or Jewish. We know he wasn't a Roman, which leaves "Jewish." Besides, most of what he preached was straight Judaism.

(He wasn't a "rabbi," BTW. I'm not sure why people write that, unless they are trying to legitimize him as a Jew who had a following).

he probably was but he wanted to be taken as a god,that's why he spoke for himself as one...that is ofcaurse if the sources are true...
