I am writing a personal statement, I have heard to avoid using " I ", but this is very dificult to actually do,it must include at least 1000 words. Does anyone have any creative suggestions on what I can use instead, this I can write to make it intersting or any personal experiences of having to write something similar...thanks = )

It should include:
1. brief autobiographical section
2.professional work history
3. reasons for wanting to pursue this degree and personal characteristics of experience that will make you an effective counselor.
4. description of your potential contributions to the field of counseling.

I think they mean to write in the third person, as if you were someone else writing about you. So sentences would be like:
"Jane has worked in the entertainment industry for five years..."
or
"The candidate received extensive training in Massage Therapy at..."

We used to have to do this where I worked. It was the format for our annual review, which we had to write ourselves. It can be tough trying not to say, "George hates his job and would rather be loading manure onto a truck...." But don't do that. Keep it upbeat, but professional, similar to a resume.

Good Luck!

Helping others to me, is one of the most remembered and life altering changes that can occur in ones lifetime.
