The same reason my 11 year old cat does. If there is barely any water in the bowl, they will turn it over to get it out. Or, if the water is not fresh, they will dump it out. Try to keep fresh water available at all times. Also, if there is plenty of water in the bowl and she is doing that, do you have the bowl next to a wall or some place where it is hard for her to reach it? Try placing her dish some place else.

She doesn't 'like it' and wants you to get her a 'sturdier' bowl that she can't swat and knock over. And while you are at the store, you can get her some new 'toys' that she can 'swat around' without spilling her water. Make sure the bowl is a 'good pet bowl' that is 'heavy' enough and has sides that slant 'in' toward the top' on the outside, and is 'round' in the middle on the inside.

Many young cats like to play with water - in a bowl or trickling down a facet or sink. It must be the play of light in the water. At any rate, they will eventually grow out of it as they mature. At this stage, your kitten just discovered that swatting hs water bowl or upending it is sooooo amusing. My kitten used to do that and it used to annoy me coz I alwasy seem to have to refill the water bowl. So, I bought a shallow bowl with a bottom wider than the top - makes it more difficult to turn over. Once my kitty discovered that he couldn't overturn the bowl, he went on and played with other more interesting stuff.

I know that some cats don't have very good vision when it comes to seeing "nearly" invisible things like the line of water. I would try putting her water in a heaver bowl that can't be dumped and try using light colors like yellow and white so she can better see (rather than dark brown and black bowls) what the water is doing. After all, how would you like to get water up your nose each time you tried to drink? Good luck!

You know, mine does that, too. I think they have to "play with" their food and water before eating it, much as they would a mouse. Here's what I suggest--get a stainless steel feeding bowl (not plastic), and put it on a plastic pet tray with edges. So, they can swat it an inch or two, but that is all the distance it will move (b/c it is heavy), and it won't move off the tray (b/c of the edges).

My cat does this too. They do it to "hide" their food or water from other animals. Cats will do it even if you don't have any other pets. It is an instinct thing. I suggest you get a heavier bowl and put a plastic pat down. This is what we did.

i don't know why she does this, my cat does it too. i think they dont want to get their nose wet, my kitty flips the bowl then drinks off the puddles. it never matters how fresh the water is or what bowl, she finds a way to flip it over. i have resorted to leaving water in the sink, so far she hasn't figured out how to tip over the sink. on the plus side kitty always has fresh water, down side is everytime you want to wash your hands you have to drain and refill the sink.

that is a super good question because my cat dose the same i think i maybe to plat or just make a mess for you to have to cleean up. it has always been strange that they do it because all cats do. they really like to play with the water and food i think that sometime it just for attension like if there is a new person in the home they will feel a bit letf out so they make a mess knowing that you will come to them with a responce! hope this helps! lehuleiluv@yahoo.com

She just may like to play in her water, but I come to find out that if you don't wash the water bowl on a regular basis, they will not drink out of it, I had to switch my water bowls out from plastic to glass.

I don't know. My cat likes to paw at her water sometimes before she drinks it! I've been told she's checking to see if there's actually water in the bowl.
