One of my dogs is a picky eater, and he even got to where he would not eat even if I put chicken or canned food on it. I switched him to a different food (ProPlan Selects) and he absolutely loves it. I would try going to your local pet stores and ask them if they have samples of the brands of food that they carry, and then offer them to the dog. It will eat the one that it likes best and then you could go get a bag of it.

Also, if the dog has had a good appetite and then suddenly stops wanting to eat it can be a sign of illness. I would take your dog to the vet.

make sure that you are feeding your dog on a schedule most dogs eat 2x a day. put the food down for 30 mins if the dog doesn't eat pick it up and wait until the next feeding time . They will not starve and don't make the mistake of being sympathatic and give the dog table food! Dogs are smart they will figure out that if I don't eat I'll get something that is not nessasarily good for me. You control the food and when it is down they should eat. If you leave the food down all day you are putting the dog in charge, hence taking the leadership role away from you. Make sure you are feeding the dog a good dog food I recommend something all natural, life's abundance, flint river ranch or solid gold.

If your dog stopped eating suddenly then you should take him to a vet,my dog occasionally doesn't eat either, sometimes he's just not hungry. If your dog takes treats he's probably ok, he just might not like the type of food you're giving him so I would try to change that, or maybe he's showing you, the food you're giving him is expired therefore bad.Hope you find out soon and good luck :-)

If this has been going on for a few days, go to the vet! Loss of appetite is most likely a sign of illness. Has he been vomiting or does he have diarrhea? Has anything changed in his world? New environment, new people, new food, new pet? This could be the cause as well. Sadly, even dogs gets depressed sometimes.

If there are no changes, then try giving him his absolutely favorite thing. If he rejects it take him to the vet.

It sometimes means they are unwell but sometimes my two can be a bit fussy so before I go to the vet I tempt them with some of the following:
tiny bit of cream cheese or peanut butter to lick off finger,
cucumber, apple or grapes
chicken

It's worth remembering to try things with different textures from normal as they may have a sore mouth / bad tooth.

If they eat the tempting food then I know they're being a bit fussy and just keep offering their usual food but keep an extra eye on them for a few days. If they're not tempted then it's off to the vet.

when you think of the size of a dogs tummy they dont need a lot of food try feeding him then moving away his dish and not giving him any nibbles that way he will be hungry when he gets his food perhaps you have spoilt him and he only wants what you have take him to the vet and get him weighed perhaps he is having enough if my dog dont eat i put him on puppy food and the puppy complete because there is a lot more goodness in it

Usually the first sign of illness in a dog is loss of appetite. It could be a number of medical problems, including dental.Get him checked by a vet.
