which came first... the singer, or the singing teacher. There's loads of information on singing, So long as you have an ear for music, and a thirst for knoledge, you can teach yourself to sing.
Everyone is their own best vocal coach.

There's a lot that one can do alone to improve the voice.
As some other answerers have pointed out, there are plenty of books available on the subject, as well.
In this day and age, recording yourself is a must, in order to have almost instant feedback as to how you sound, which is an amazing help.
but in end effect, no, you can't do it alone. There are too many subtle points that escape one's own perception, that a set of "outside ears" will catch.
Joining groups can help with musicianship, confidence in performing, and good clean singing fun, but to expand one's own horizons is an adventure that you and a guide will have to go alone.
While you are looking for a good teacher, may I recommend some books?
William Vennard; Voice, the mechanism and the technique
Richard Miller; Training the Soprano Voice
ditto; Training the Tenor Voice
These are available through ( no advertising here!)
a well known on line bookstore, or through your local music store.
Do talk to people, share experiences, and keep on singing!
Best wishes

Anyone can sing. But even if you had lesson you first have to have a voice that can be trained There are books that you can read with the material you would need to help your self. You must be able to sing in tune and carry a tune. So many people are tone deaf and don't even realize it. Watch American Idol first tryout programs, and you'll understand what I mean. Eventually if you want to make a career singing it will end up you needed professional help.

I think you can practice your exercising your vocals and stuff like that. You can try to focus on stuff like having a tuned voice. Hahaha...I dont know if you understand what I mean by that...but yeah...
I don't know, that's what I do. Get in chorus class, if you're still in school. That helped me a lot to develop my voice. :)

Sure you can. But you probably need to know what you're doing right and wrong, because doing someone wrong can be really terrible to your vocal chords. But, if you do simple warm ups every day, you can broaden your range easily.
