No Fred Bear was not an Indian. Fred passed away several years ago but is credited with bringing archery into the mainsteam of modern hunting. The " Nuge" was a close personal friend of Freds and hunted with him often. He considered him a mentor!

No he was not an Indian. But I have read that he had an Indian friend that taught him how to make bows and arrows.
When he started making bows, archery was a dead sport, even most of the American Indians had lost touch with this part of their past. He really is the reason people hunt with bows today.
I don't think that Fred Bear ever really hunted with a compound bow. When he was in his 70's, he still hunted with a full recurve bow at 70lbs pull. He must have been one strong old dude.

You must still be young and haven't hear the news. It's good news for those of us with taste. Fred was never funny, and never will be. That is all.
