So Pope John Paul doesn't matter anymore cuz he's dead?

Yes, she was. She was raised in an upper middle class family. Her mother and Margaret Sanger founded Planned Parenthood. Katherine Hepburn was educated at Bryn Mawr and graduated with a BA in both history and philosophy.

I saw a documentary on her life a few months ago and recall that yes, indeed, she was not religious at all. Her brother was killed in a freak accident - something about hanging himself in the closet. I believe her reaction to that event did not pull her any closer to God, but it remained a painful incident. The entire family was more involved with sports and intellectual pursuits, as I recall, so you can say that her upbringing led her to rely more on herself than on divine power.
