it's really quite curious...im interested in all kinds of answers.

The originated eons ago. When people were giving up things for Lent they gave up fats and lard and things like that. The Tuesday before Lent they made pancakes to rid those items out of there kitchens. The legacy has carried on.

I've never heard that was the traditional food eaten on that date. People eat whatever they like, pancakes or otherwise, on Fat Tuesday because that is the last day to indulge before they give up everything for Lent which starts the following day and lasts 40 days after.

I think it's because many people start fasting on Ash Wednesday (the next day). And after that many people give up dairy and eggs and leavening items (all things found in a pancake). It's sort of a binge before the purge.

I don't know why pancakes in particular, but tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, a day of fasting for Catholics. This means only enough food to keep yourself from passing out. Then for the next 6 weeks we are to eat no meat on Fridays either.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Ash Wed. is the start of Lent. fat tuesday is the last day to eat flours,grains,etc. until Easter. remaining flours,eggs,and dairys are used to make pancakes.

Pancacks are eaten on fat tuesday because they are filling. the idea of fat tuesday is to prepare your body for fasting. Tradionaly people fast on ash wednesday which is the start of the easter season.
