well i din't know about crooked, but they can certainly shift. i wore braces for 2yrs. when they came off, i had a retainer to wear on a consistent basis for a certain period of time. i did not wear it like i should have. i let alot of time go by, maybe even a year. i was looking in the mirror one day and it seemed like my 2 front teeth may have been protruding a lil bit. i got the retainer out, washed off the dust. put it back in my mouth before bed. i had a lil more difficulty getting it in.and when i woke up the next morning after wearing it all night. WOW, my top teeth were sore and it had pushed my 2 front teeth back were they need to be. so there is a reason for wearing a retainer consistently for a certain length of time.

It's important that you wear your retainer for as long as your orthodontists tells you. After your braces are removed, it will still take awhile for your gums, muscles and bones to adapt to your new tooth position. Otherwise, the teeth will start to shift back to where they originally were. Some people are required to wear them longer than others, only your orthodontist can advise you of that. I wore braces as a teen and stopped wearing the retainer because I didn't like it. Years later, I am wearing braces again and it's much more painful to wear them as an adult.

Yes. I had braces and after they were removed I was given a retainer to wear every night. Within months of not wearing my retainer like I was supposed to, my teeth started to revert back to the way they were before.

I wear a retainer, and the answer is yes. When your dentist tells you to only wear it at night then listen. But my retainer is almost going to get out so yay me. Listen girl, you gotta keep it in except when you are eating!!!!

Yes. The retainer is to keep the teeth from moving. If you don't wear it, you have wasted your time, money, and pain.

No. i do not imagine she ever had definitely braces, yet truly retainers and invisalign type stuff. i assume that her one crooked tooth became some thing that would not be fairly fastened. They fastened all of her different tooth yet no longer that one in the front. i imagine that per chance her mouth/tooth were too crowded to revive it completely. also, she has said her dad would not pick her to get her tooth fastened, so as it really is area of it. I do advise donning retainers after braces notwithstanding. I had braces and did not placed on my retainer sufficient so my tooth moved a touch. no longer sufficient to be crooked yet in simple terms shifted slightly.

very, even if you got your retainers off over a year ago, you should still at least be wearing them at night. I have seen many people who stopped wearing their retainers too early have to get braces again because they had a relapse. Wear your retainers 24/7 for AT LEAST the first six months, and then count on wearing them at night for many years after.

Yes they can and probably will if you stop. Just keep wearing them every night. It is a little thing to do and will help you not waste the money that was spent on your teeth!
