an IV is an intravenous line, a needle is stuck into a vein, generally using a vein in your hand or arm around your elbow, or in between. an IV starts as a saline solution (normal salt water), and they will inject medicine into the either the IV bag, and that will drip into the IV tubing, which is connected to the needle, or they will inject medication into the IV tubing. If they are going to sedate you for this, it will probably go into the IV tubing, but if they are giving you antibiotics, which I'm sure they will, they will more than likely inject that into the IV bag itself, and let the saline solution with the antibiotic drip into your bloodstream. The advantages of an IV are so that medication will get into your bloodstream faster.
It really isn't that painful, it's just a lil' sting when they insert the needle- if the person knows what they are doing.

An IV is shorthand for intravenous. It means you will have a cannula, needle inserted, usually in the back of your hand, and an IV attached with a saline flowing through, or whatever the Doc orders. Is just another way of administering fluids or anti biotics quickly and effectively. Hope all goes well for you.

An IV is a needle that is inserted into your vein to bring medication or other liquids into your bloodstream. There will be a bag hanging up holding these liquids and dripping them into you. Probably it will include medication to sedate you while you have your procedure. It shouldn't hurt except for the initial needle prick. Good luck!

It's a bag of fluid that they hook up to you to have the drugs go directly into your system. You will get a needle stuck in you then the IV is plugged into the needle. It's not painful.

I.V. stands for intravenous. intra means inside, and venous means vein. This tube is inserted into your vein with antibiotics or other nourishments.
