I hate when a punch of opinioated people who dont know what theyre talking about answer questions!!!

First Stop putting any aftercare on it. Sounds like you've overdone it. Maybe you made a bad choice of lotion, petroleum based proucts can cause a similiar reaction. Take a benadryl and go see your artist. They should be able to tell instantly if there is a problem with it. A doctor does not always know and may put you on needless antibiotics simply to be safe, whereas it might just be a problem with the lotion.

Is the tattoo fresh? Certain body parts ie feet ankles etc will swell and get red simply because of the location.

An infection usually shows up as a purplish red area about 1 or 2 inches around your tattoo. There will be puss, its gonna hurt........trust me you'll know the difference if you already have soem, that its infected. Yours doesnt sound like it, but since we cant see it go to your artist to be sure. Even if you didnt go to a reputable place to get it go to one now and they will at least be able to tell you if theres a problem.

You may be having an allergic reaction to the lotion you're using. Try an unscented lotion that you know you don't have a reaction to, and don't overdo it.

You could also have a slight allergic reaction to the ink your artist used. It's not too common, but it does happen.

either way it doesn't sound like an infection, but if you're really worried about it, go see your artist. If you're still not satisfied, see a doctor.

A third to Deb. It really sounds like you just have a rash - more likely too much moisturizer/skincare than you need. On my recent work I've really been holding off on doing much moisturizing - still doing some - and it's healing quicker with little/no itching and no rash.

As my artist says, less is more.

Go see yout tatoo professional that you have gotten your tattoo with and he'll find the right treatment. I'm sure they would know alot just like the other doctors. Since they probably had the same experience at least once.

Deb P is right on...I got the same kind of rash on one of my 10 tattoos and it was from the the type of ointment that I used on it. Do exactly what she said.

Well since you have other tat's, then I'm sure you have been putting your antiobiotic cream on it right? And you have been following all the guidelines?

If you have answered yes to the above, then go to the hospital or doctor and get an antibiotic shot. Other wise you will get a serious blood infection that will cause severe problems in the long run.

Did you go to a good quality tat artist that opened and used the sterile needles in front of you?
