normally they go to the bar at the bottom but now they dissappear, I have to do ctrl+alt+delete to find them

I done all your steps and nothing, I have HP with pre-instal windowx Xp and purchased office 2003 all new in May 2006

Have you looked at the little rectangular shaped boxes that run along the bottom edge of your monitor? That's where things go when I minimize them on my PC.

1. Which Operating System are you using?

2. Are you sure that they are completely disappearing from the desktop? If the "group similar taskbar buttons" is checked you wont be able to see them seperately.
check: Start > Settings > Taskbar and Start Menu

3. Abnormal behavior of the EXPLORAR can also be caused by other 3rd party file-system-explorar-softwares.
Have you recently installed any software like this? If you did, see if uninstalling it helps.

4. A general cause can be virus infection. Check your PC with a latest anti-virus software.
