This is the very question Pontis Pilate asked Jesus. In the irony of the ages, he stood toe to toe with the personification of truth and yet missed its reality. Postmodern people are in much the same position. They stare at truth but fail to recognize its identity.
First, truth is an aspect of the nature of God himself. Thus, to put on truth is to put on Christ. For Christ is "truth" John 14:6.
Furthermore, truth is anything that corresponds to reality. As such, truth does not yield to the size and strength of the latest lobby group. Nor is truth merely a matter of preference or opinion. Rater truth is true even if everyone denies it, and a lie is a lie even if everyone affirms it.
Finally, truth is essential to a relistic worldview.
When sophistry, sensationalism, and superstition sabotage truth, our view of reality is seriously skewed.
The death of truth spell the death of civilization.
However, as Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn discovered, One word of truth outweighs the entire world.

Truth is one. Only one. It is a form. Just like beauty and justice. Something that even the average scholar cannot comprehend. Even the most intelligent person cannot define what it truth. Only those who are in tune with the good can define it.

Anyone's definition of truth is a mere opinon, it can be proven true or false, right or wrong.

“There is no absolute truth. You can’t be sure of anything!”

Those who say that there are no absolutes are often very adamant about their belief. If they say that they are absolutely sure, then they are wrong because their own statement is an absolute. If they are not 100 percent sure, then there is a chance that they are wrong and they are risking their eternal salvation by trusting in a wrong belief. God tells us that there is an objective, absolute truth that is not subject to man’s interpretations or whims, on which we can base our eternity. That truth is the Word of God (John 17:7).
