Do the laying down thing and make sure your soft palate is lifted
(when you yawn your soft palate lifts) so next time you yawn notice how the very back and top of your throat lifts up thats your soft palate.

Singing from the diaphragm is more involved than just what you are doing with the stomach. It is more about getting your back and sides to expand when you inhale, and then keeping this sense of expansion in the back/sides while you are singing.

I have created a video series detailing how to do all of this, including the very important step of how to coordinate this motion with sound. I also show you how to apply it to an actual song. You can find the videos at the link below:

We use our diaphragms every day, every minute to breathe, so finding it and using it is just a matter of refining your perception.
When you laugh ( a really good belly laugh) and you feel everything shake around, that's the feeling of not only diaphragmatic action, but also of the adominal muscles connected to the diaphragm. If you can recreate that feeling ( without the laugh) then you are beginning to use those muscles properly.
As someone else suggested, lying down with a small book placed on your abdomen will also help you realize what it is you are doing.
A couple of other images to help you out: remeber when you were a little kid, and had a swimming ring around your tummy to help keep you afloat? Try maintaining that feeling around your middle.
Or imagine you've been asked out to dinner- all your favorite food, and you don't to cook, pay, or wash up afterwards. Eat it up, yum! Now think, "mmmm, that was great!" Your sigh of contentment comes from the same area.
Keep at it, you'll get it!
Best wishes.

you have to sing from your "stomach"(the diaphragm is right below the stomach). when you inhale, most people have thier diaphragm expand, and when they exhale, it contracts. to sing from the diaphragm, you need to get the proper technique of breathing from the diaphragm, then that's basically it.

I took voice lessons and they made me lie down on the floor for a few times to sing because this forces you to sing from your diaphragm. Once you do this, you learn how it feels to sing correctly and then you can mimic it when standing up.

Put your hand under your breasts, above your stomach. When you inhale deeply, that should move up, when you exhale, it should go down. Try to do short, bouncy breaths, and see if it moves up and down. If your hand doesn't move, then you're breathing with your chest and shoulders. Keep them still and concentrate on your diaphragm, or above your stomach. Move it while you breathe, without moving your shoulders.

sit up straight, or stand. take a deap breathe and push from your abs. make sure there is no tension in your throat, the only pressure should be coming from you abs. and keep your mouth about two fingers open. try excercizes likesinging stacatto rather than legato.it takes practice but eventually you'll get it.

Pant like a dog with your hand on your stomach. Fee how it's pushing? It should feel like that when you're singing.
