I got my braces off on thursday (Feb. 15). I have been given a retainer which i wear on a daily basis however today, after brushing this morning, i forgot to put it back in. So I forgot to take it at school and i got home just now and it is 6 o'clock now. The retainer fit in my mouth diffrently (more tighter then usual) so i suspect my teeth have moved. I'm kind of worried. Is this normal and wil my teeth move back to where they were as long as I continue to wear my retainer or am i screwed?!

your teeth will be absolutely fine even though you forgot this one time. It takes longer than just 12 hours to do any harm. They're gunna be sore, but that happens whether you have your retainer out or in for the first couple of weeks. Its just really important for you to remember to keep that retainer in day and night for at least the first 6 months or else you could have some serious relapse if you forget frequently which might lead to you having braces again. don't sweat it this time, just don't make it a habit! Good Luck!

I don't wear my retainer for weeks at a time (not a good idea) and than my retainer is tight because as you said the teeth have moved. All you have to do to fix this problem is wear your retainer on a normal basis.

everlasting retainers will save your teeth straighter and don't prefer as lots maintenance to maintain up with the paintings your dentist did (considering the fact which you teeth will prefer to go lower back consistently). additionally, you will by no ability could difficulty approximately dropping your retainer or having a canine/infant chewing on them. evening retainers can harm your teeth in case you haven't any longer worn them in a jointly as so which you would be able to take them out in the evening devoid of understanding it. yet with everlasting retainers you will continually could use floss threaders making it harder to floss, and because maximum human beings do no longer floss adequate, something making flossing harder for a occasional flosser isn't sturdy. everlasting retainers is often painful in the event that they harm and you will could wait till you would be seen to get your orthodontist to restoration a poking twine or whatnot. I wish i'd have had a nicely-known retainer rather of the sparkling one because of the fact it stretches out over the years so i'm continually having to bypass lower back in and that they harm (no longer quite yet greater desirable than by no ability that's stressful) additionally, my canine bypass a carry of my retainer one evening I pulled it out and that i could no longer get lower back to the orthodontist for some weeks so my teeth started moving.

Don't freak out. Just remember to wear your retainer in the future. It's good that you're trying to remember to wear your retainer. One day won't kill anything.
