Depends on the situation. My friend has a daugther who was born mentally and physically handicap and she was told her daugther would live till about 2 years old, her daughter is now 12. Her child can not talk, walk or eat on her own, but she loves her so much, and never regrets having her. Now she realizes that the gene that caused this to her child was from her, so when she gets pregnant again she is getting tested to find out if the child has carried the gene as well, if so then she is going to abort it as she is going through a lot of stress raising a child this way. She is constantly in the hospital suffering from seizures. She doesn't agree with abortion but she doesn't want to see another child come into this world so unhealthy. A hard decision but parents know what they feel is best, and should not be punished for it.

I would NEVER have an abortion no matter how the child came out. The child didn't ask to be here and have problems. Its not the childs fault so why take the childs life? If you were to have a abortion why not just walk into the local police dept. and turn yourself in for murder, after all once you get pregnant the baby is a living human. It's against the law to murder someone so why not be against the law to have an abortion unless under extreme cases like rape, or like if you were going to die having the baby.

In real term by the time you find out that you might give birth to a retarded baby with problems it would be too late to abort because it gets too about the 13 to 15 weeks that's almost 4 months legality too late also there are so many false positives to those tests that the baby might turn out fine Also lots of children have problems such as autism that is not diagnosed until school age so you never know what is gong to happen.

No, I wouldn't. I can empathize with a person who is scared and saddened when learning they will be giving birth to a mentally retarded child, but I don't think it's right to abort them. I would feel God gave me that child for a reason, that I was meant to be his/her parent and do the best I could with His guidance.

No! Of course not. Just because a child is retarded doesn't mean he should be murdered because of it. That would be like saying to a patient checked into a hospital that his life will now be aborted because he is sick. Being retarded doesn't change anything. A retarded person still is human and still is equal to everyone else. No one deserves to be murdered, even if they do have disabilities.

It is still a part of you. The baby is innocent and should have a chance. One doesn't ask for these thing to happen but it does and you have to deal with god gives out. Yes, there would be struggles. It is a child/human the parents would be able to look pass this condition and love them unconditionally. Just because a child is mentally challenged it doesn't mean that they can't succeed in life.

Yes. If your honest with your self, its the smart thing to do. The child will have a stressful life. If you know for a fact that it will be mentally retarded then i think its best for the child.

i don't think it is right to bring a child up like that.
I'm not for abortion in any other situation but this one. i think that if you know ahead of time that something is going to be severally wrong with your child through no fault of your own, it is ok to abort the pregnancy.
i don't think that it is right for people who sleep around and get knocked up to go and have an abortion because they are supposedly not ready for a child, or for some crack head to come to the realization that their child may be handicapped because of all the drugs they did while pregnant to have an abortion either.
but if you are not giving your child the life that they should have to live and love things than it should not be frowned upon to do this. only under the circumstances that the child will be so severely brain damaged that they have to recollection of what is going on.

If I knew that my child was going to have a birth defect then I think that I would just love him/her more. Every person has a reason to be here, and alot of children with birth defects turn out to be the most loveable caring people.
