Okay so I've wanted a tattoo for a while, and decided that I want a star on the lower right hand side of my stomach, it's going to be a star (two of them, one outlining the other). The outer star is going to be solid black and the other is going to be rainbow (yes I'm gay...) I already know who the tattoo artist is, she does awsome work, she's the one who did my ex-bf's (now best friends =] ) tatts... I wanted to know what the upkeep would be and tips, etc... I'm not going too large but I want it noticable... I'm pretty much set on the location and it involving a star, thats for sure. The ex-bf is a REALLY good artist, so thinking about asking him to design me a tattoo involving what I described, see what he thinks...

Sounds good, the upkeep after you get it would be easy considering the size and location.

I think that idea is fine...the tattoo doesn't look too big...the aftercare is kind of a pain (well I thought it was anyways) but it's not too bad and once the healing process is done...you're set!

The only thing with the aftercare is whether the star is going to be low enough on your stomach for your jeans to rub against it. That's kind of irritating and isn't all that comfortable when the tattoo is healing.

Congrats on your decision - it sounds great! Don't get all hung up on aftercare - you have confidence in your artist, therefore have confidence in her aftercare instructions. Be sure you remember to get them in writing, sometimes our clients accidentally leave it behind.

You will be so "high" with excitement of having the tattoo you will only half-listen to the instructions so it is great to have written reference. Essentially, you will wash it the frequency she tells you and apply the aftercare product she provides or tells you to buy. Apply that also to the frequency she directs. It is in a good area that is not exposed to environmental dirt, etc. so it will be quite easy for you. No tub baths, etc...keep your hands and everyone else's off of it. (Don't know why but people LOVE to touch tattoos!!!)

We all have our favorite aftercare products and truly, the skin is a marvelous organ and will heal even under less than perfect conditions...you just want your ink to settle in nicely so just listen to her! Good luck...come back and show us a picture!!

have you seen those stars where each point is divided in 1/2 and one half is black and you can color the other side. you could do the other halves of each point in a rainbow around it. red, orange, yellow, green, and blueish-purple. it would be a lot bolder then just doing the outline in rainbow colors.

i really like the star idea..and i really like nome179er's idea..i have a nautical star on my back..most people think that the star tattoos are just overrated and blah blah blah..(i have 17 stars on my body)..The nautical star stands for hope and guidance (which is why sailors got them tattooed on their forarms)..i think that'd be really cool with the nautical star filled in as a rainbow..i wanna see it when you get it done! send me a picture :) good luck!

Just know that getting it hurts. It feels a little like getting cut while it is being done. However, it stops hurting immediately. The ol\nly other time it will hurt is when it starts to heal, it will itch - don't scratch it! Follow the care directions given to you by your artist - no one else.

make sure it is exactly wnat and where you want it - one its there, it there for good.

It is wonderful getting a tat! welcome to the club and good luck :-)

if you are set on wings, which yes, on an ankle will look fem, just make sure they are masculine wings, and I would say two together, or one with the other folded behind it, one wing on each would look too sparatic, and one on one ankle would look unfinished. Just make sure you love what you decide, this is nothing to just settle on you know ;)
