Actually, they aren't Dutch. Deutsch is the German word for German. They're Pennsylvania Deutsch, which became Pennsylvania Dutch to the outsiders.

The Pa. Dutch are of the Amish and Mennonite denominations of the Christian religion. They hold to view on modernity that make their lifestyles seem quaint to "the English" as they call people who are not Pa. Dutch.

The largest group is found in Lancaster County, Pa., although there are groups elsewhere in the state.
