Ted Haggard is the exception rather than the rule of ministers. Unfortunately, too many of the televangelists become so focused on the ministry itself and elevate that ministry over God, instead of remembering that the ministry is the tool to serve God.

This has happened all the way back to Moses and the waters of Meribah. Moses lost the opportunity to go into the Promised Land because when the Israelites grumbled about lack of water, he stated, "what do I have to do" uh oh. Moses who was the agent of some of the greatest miracles in the Old Testament, forgot at that point that God provided those miracles, and it had NOTHING to do with Moses' abilities. When that happened, Moses lost his reward of leadership into the Promised Land.

This is what happens to many ministers, they forget that God is in control, not them. When that happens, a minister will fall until they realize that God is in control.

An example of a minister who has changed is Jim Bakker (as in the former PTL Minister and ex-husband of Tammy Faye "Mascara" Bakker), he shuns the spotlight and has rededicated his life to God and is now serving him quietly and humbly behind the scenes.

He has reinforced my belief that a great many of "believers" use religion as a mask for their own social weaknesses. What do I mean?

I'm willing to bet that I could research within the porn industry, and find about 2 cases of pedophilia. I'm willing to bet that I could find at least 1000 within the church right now.

He has reinforced my view that there is an inherent hypocrisy in religion that is so blatant that many people don't mention the elephant in the living room, because they can't believe it could actually be there.

It has only confirmed my belief that Father God wants your heart and not your religion. Religion is not salvation. Jesus Christ is.

Ted Haggard's troubles make me convinced more than ever that EVERY man needs a Savior. I lean on Jesus Christ more each day. He is my Savior; a human pastor is my peer.
