I was walking my shih-tzu in my front yard. I had him on a leash as I always do. Well, all of a sudden he saw a cat and started to run and jerked really hard on the leash and I accidently dropped it. He started to run into the street and a truck was coming, I screamed and the truck stopped, but my dog was already under the truck. The miracle was, my dog ran out from under the truck, scared to death to me. The driver kept telling me he was sorry and was my dog ok. I told him I thought he was. The truck was high off the ground, so it did not hit my dog, and the truck strattled him so he was not ran over or anything. So my question is, should I still take him to the vet. My husband saw what happened through the window and said I did not need to take him seeing that he was not hit, and the truck strattled him. What do you think?

If he's acting normally, he's probably okay. I personally would take him just to get a quick once-over and make sure he's okay, though.

If he was not hit and you are sure of this, then no need to take him to the vet. Just keep him away from the street for a few days in case he has suffered "mentally." This may have burned a bad memory in your dog's brain.

If he is not bleeding or acting funny, just observe him and take him to the vet if he starts acting like something is wrong. Dogs are vocal and you will know when something is wrong.

I am very happy your dog is okay and nobody was injured.

I know the fear you experienced watching your dog as he was apparently about to die but he is so little that I agree with your husband. The truck straddled your dog. Maybe it will teach your dog not to go into the street. FYI I have a border collie who while visiting my daughter insisted on tackling the front bumper of a neighbors HUGE cement truck. Luckily he was fast enough to stop. No, it did not stop her. A border collie will herd anything if sheep are unavailable, including people and big trucks.

I think just to be on the safe side to take him to the vet. You can never be too safe!

I would call the vet and explain the incident and ask them if he should be checked.

I'm glad he's ok!

you may want to take him in just to make sure that he's ok. there is nothing worse then realizing that you should have taken him and now something is wrong because of that

my opinion to you is take him in anyway. he may have not been hurt, but it will surely make you feel better about knowing!

No, he'll be fine. You might need a Valium.
