There are many possible reasons, but in short your body has the capacity to "purge" itself when there is a serious problem in the GI tract. This is not limited to mere contents of the stomach. Your liver can also excrete toxins into the duodenum which is then pushed back through the stomach and right up and out through the mouth. What you throw up can come from even "deeper" as well. Yes, it is possible to throw up something that is more or less "poo." If this is happening, you're probably very, very ill so you're not likely to notice enough to be "grossed out." ;-)
