I've seen ivory and champagne. It was different, but it worked well, was still classy and you were able to identify the bride. I think variations on white are becoming the new trendy. I think this is classy and still keeps with tradition. I don't like when the bride wears an all pink or red dress. That is just too bold.
I don't like white tuxes either.

If you're having a wedding, it's your occasion. Choose whatever color dress you would like. There will be traditionalists in your audience that are scandalized, and there will be people who think it's pretty neat and individual.
I've seen themed weddings that had a wide variety of colors and styles. Renaissance weddings tend not to have white dresses, and certainly not tuxes. Hawaiian weddings will have much different decorations and attire. It's your wedding, choose what you like, but remember that you're building memories to last a lifetime. Don't pick a theme or colors that are likely to embarass you 10 years down the line.

I wore an ice pink duponi silk dress.
I originally wanted a red dress, but realized pink looked better with my hair and complexion.
if you're thinking about wearing something out of the norm, check out IndieBride.com. There are whole threads about non-white/traditional dresses. LOTS of great ideas there!
Good luck!

I haven't, but I have heard of red dresses lately. Most of them have been darkish red.
Some of my family has its origin in Sweden and there they wore black brides dresses until 150-200 years ago. The reasons were of course economical - the dress was to be worn at all great parties for the rest of their lives.
And of course: brides who marry for the second of third (or etc) time usually don't marry dressed in a white dress. Prince Charles's new wife wore something greyish, I believe.

In my culture it is traditional for the bride to wear white. It represents purity. If you are getting married after you have had a child you wear a pearl color. However in other cultures they were various different colors. Like I know hindu's have a traditional dress their brides wear and its not white. And I'm sure other cultures have different traditions as well. If you want to follow your own culture's traditions, go for it. If you want to start your own traditions, that's good too. All these other traditions had to be started somehow, right?

no (haven't been married, but have been to weddings and never seen anything other than white), but...diffrent colors do mean different things, like don't do black because you will wish you were single, and pink will "make your spiritis sink" blue is a good color, as it means you will both be faithful, and white supposedly means you have chosen the right guy. um, the singer Pink had the black and pink cake thing, but a lot of celebrities get married in different colors, than again celebrities get divorced all the time so, yeah, not exactly the model of good weddings.....white doesn't mean just virginity, it also means you guys are morally correct, here's thd site i got the poem off of http://www.weddinggazette.com/content/004568.shtml

Shannon Doretty wore a robe. Pamela Anderson Lee wore a bikini. Me? Always went for the classic 50's silver screen type dresses in ivory. Sorry.

I wore a lilac dress....it wasn't the full blown wedding gown...and I didn't want to invest the money and not wear it ever again.
I would wear what you really want to wear. what ever the colour.......as long as you like it.
Don't listen to anyone else,...its your day.....
and down the road, if you go with something you're really not 100% sure of,....your kiss your a - - later.....
good luck..
