do something good so I was wondering- my cat's pawing at a chess set with glass pieces and knocked one over- that's when I said no in a serious tone and she looked at me and stopped. I was very happy about that so I thought if I asked her to get down and she did, could I give her a treat to reward that or will she get confused that I'm rewarding her for having touched the chess set?

You can reward the good behaviour.

No, don't give her a reward. It will only serve to reinforce the unwanted behaviour. Just a pat and a bit of encouraging talk when she stops when you tell her to. Get her something else to play with, like a toy of some sort. All three of our cats understand NO, all will sit on command and one even understands the command to HEEL when he comes with us on a walk - no leash on him either!

Hmmm,

I wouldn't give a treat because you may comfuze the cat.

Try teaching it commands! Like come and sit if that is possible, then there is a reason for treats and rewards.

you should reward her for good behavior, Like if your trying to litter box train and notice that she goes In the box or trying to get her not to scratch furniture, and she uses her post,
