Can you describe the invasions in D-Day, like what kind of vessels they sent in, and what order? What kind of weapons did the allies have and what kind of weapons did the German's have? What kind of defences did the Germans have?

I don't mean long, descriptive explanations, just basically what happened.

Watch "The Longest Day", that has a go at covering all sides. Books have been written on your question, there's no easy and quick answer but I'll give you the short version.

They came in in landing craft from the Higgins Boat (LCP) to the LSTs which eventually landed tanks.

The Germans had Mauser 98s, MG34s and MG42s, stick grenades, concrete fortifications, tank obstacles, anti tank guns, artillery, tanks, barbed wire and land mines as well as natural hazards such as cliffs and hedges. Their air power was largely contained by then, the RAF and USAF had air superiority.

The British had Lee Enfield rifles, Bren and Sten guns, Mills bombs, Royal Navy warships and the Spitfires, Typhoons, Tempests, Mosquitoes and Beaufighters, most of which were armed with 20mm canon and sometimes 5" rockets too by then, regardless of what the history channel says. The landed in Airspeed Horsa gliders, parachuted from DC3s and floated in on landing craft.

The US had M1 Garand rifles and BARs with some Springfield sniper rifles and the USN in fire support. Their own air support consisted of mostly P47s and P51s armed with 50 cal Browning heavy machine guns. They arrived the same way as the other forces, by LCPs, LSTs, gliders and parachutes.

OK, I think I know how things went on Omaha Beach, but the others, I don't know. OK, first the Allied forces sent in small troop carrying boats called Higgins boats. The troops exited the Higgins boat went up the beach and were mostly all slaughtered. The Germans had these big bunkers and machine gun nests on the rocky cliffs of the beach with abatis (long, sharp pieces of wood sticking out of the ground), barbed wire, and other obstacles on the beach. After the troops were deployed, including troops that were air-dropped from planes, destroyers and battleships about 3/4 mile of shore began opening fire on the bunkers, machine gun nests, etc. with torpedoes and missiles. Finally, air forces from the British and American armies began their attack on the German defenses. As for the weapons they had, the Americans had M1 Garand rifles, Colt pistols, M1A1 Thompson rifles, M1918A2 Browning Automatic Rifles (or BARs for short), and various models of grenades. The Germans had Walther P38 pistols, Gewehr 43 sniper rifles, Machinegewehr 42 rifles, and Raketenpanzerbuchse 54's (Panzerschreck rocket-launcher).

America bared most of the forces at Normandy. America took Omaha Beach - the most heavily fortified of them all - and broke into france to save the cheese-eating-surrender-monkeys for a second time. While other armies were sun bathing on other beach heads American soldiers were getting killed at about a rate of 3,000 per hour!

God Bless America

There a great book you can read called D Day, by Stephen E. Ambrose. If you like to read about military history, he is one of the best.

All the excruciating detail you can think of is in this book.
