Ali

This would've been an entertaining fight. Both men were from the middleweight division. They have equal experience. This fight would last the distance, if you ask me. Neither Roy nor Ali can be knocked out in his prime. Ali has the edge in defense and chin. Jones has a little edge in stamina and power. Ali had 37 ko's in 55 fights, while Jones has 38 ko's in 49 fights.
I think Ali would have the upper-hand in the fight. Roy's number one asset is his speed. Although he has speed, that won't matter very much since he is facing an opponent with equal, if not more speed. Ali would take a unanimous decision over Roy. The cards may probably read: 115-113, 116-112, 116-112, all for Ali.

I think Roy would have the advantage in speed, but Ali has a massive advantage in power. In order to put this into perspective, We have to look at Ali fight with Bob Foster in 1972. Foster weighed 180 for the contest, (Ali 221 1/4), and Foster was knocked down four times in the 5th, twice in the 7th, and for the count in the 8th.

Although Roy would most likely bulk up to 195 to face Ali, there are still massive question marks over his chin. I see Roy trying to run for the first two rounds, while shooting non scoring shots at Ali. Ali shades the first on virtue of landing the more telling shots. Ali hurts Jones late in the second, badly wobbling Roy. Ali then picks Jones apart with his jab and combos, decking Jones twice in the third. In the fourth, Roy tries to run again, but Ali stings him with right crosses and fast combos, and drops him again. Jones gets up, but is dazed, and Ali pounces on him, unleashing a brutal barrage of combos on the wide open Jones, dropping him again, this time for the 10 count. Ali in four rounds. But unlike Archie Moore, Jones won't even have the satisfaction of even hurting Ali, let alone knocking him down.

Ali wins! He would be a little too big, skilled, and strong for Roy.
The fight would go the distance as Roy would not try to mix it up or slug it out with Ali. Ali by UD.

Hello Malcom Burks
Great Question!

ali because he was much stronger when they were both in their prime. A better question would be Rocky Marciano or Muhammad Ali.

Would be an entertaining fight but Ali was as quick as a middle weight fighter so any speed edge that Jones might have is negated. Ali by decision.

this is got to be the easiest answer i've seen, you can't possibly put the best fighter of all time against just a regular joe like roy. don't get me wrong roy was a great fighter at 160 in his younger days. but at heavyweight ali is just as fast with better defense a great advantage in reach which he used so well and roy have problems with taller fighters. roy don't posess the power to make ali respect him and this is an easy fight for ali and i would say a knockout, ali fought wars for 15 roy fight these boring fights and he's tired it the 10th. next time put roy against more even opponents like chris byrd, james toney, marvin spinks and maybe floyd patterson who all have great chance of beating roy in heavyweights.

Dumb question as Ali was a 220 lb heavyweight and Roy Jones is a blown up middle weight.

Ali by 5th round knockout. Jones would not be ranked in my top 20 heavyweights of all time as he was not a natural heavyweight but a middleweight that bulked up. I don't believe he would have beaten most of Ali's opponents either.
