It really still is. A student can pray silently whenever they want.

It just shouldn't be broadcast over the intercom throughout the entire school, or a teacher shouldn't be allowed to lead a prayer.

I think we should allow ALL prayer in public schools. If someone needs to pray loudly every 5 minutes every day, that would be fine. We cannot restrict it to a silent time because it may not jive with someones beliefs. The whole day will be filled with people acting out their over 200 different religious beliefs. Yeah, great idea.
The people who are for it are really for allowing only THEIR prayers to THEIR god to promote THEIR agenda.

There is nothing wrong with a person praying to themselves at any time if they feel the need. That was never banned. In that way, it has always been allowed.

It is only group prayer that is wrong in mixed company and schools that are paid for by state and government. Group prayers held in school is what private religious focused schools are for...

Prayer IS allowed in public schools. Students may pray aloud as long as they are not interrupting class or harassing others. And, of course, if one is praying silently, how are others to know what you're doing?

If you mean someone wants to pray quitely by themselves, and if it doesn't disrupt the class, that would be their choice. That I don't have a problem with. Just as an atheist child would choose not to pray, and no one should have a problem with that.

Mandating a time for prayer during school hours or telling the class to pray before meals wouldn't be right, though. Let the kids choose when where and IF they should pray.

I agree with the first reponse. Prayer at public schools is OK if it taking place in a club or group. It is not OK to make people pray during class time.

Prayer is allowed in public schools. What's not allowed is teacher (or other school personnel) led prayers.

I think that all religions should be allowed to pray in schools not just Christians. I think that for people who are atheists or do not want to pray shouldn't be forced to and I also think that they can read a book or perhaps go outside into the hall while all sorts of religions.

I think it would be distracting, mostly from what you're there to do. Learn. Religion is not usually part of the curriculum at a public school.

However, if in case this did happen, which it won't... you would need to offer the ability for children to pray in their own way. Because not everyone prays, or prays in the same way.
