Either all the tapes I have are blank or the digital camcorder i got is not reading them.

When the Digital8 camcorders first appeared, one of the selling points was that it's compatible with the older 8mm videotapes - however, the newer Digital8 camcorders have eliminated this feature (probably as a cost cutting measure).

You may be able to get an inexpensive 8mm or Hi8 camcorder that can play your existing 8mm videotapes - another options is to have them transferred to DVD.
