On the video game, Civil War: A Nation Divided on the Gettysburg level, a Gatling gun can be used. I have a really, really good feeling that a Gatling Gun was never, ever at Gettysburg. I just want to make sure I wasn't wrong, as rare an instance that would be.

EIP, what museum do you mean? If you mean the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, that was from some later battle in the Civil War.

Yes there are ghosts at Gettysburg. And there's no "h" in Gettysburg.

No, and I do not have the email address and I learned today I enter the hospital on March the 1st. Would it be possible for them to call me collect? Do you have a mailing address you could give me? Back to your question. As usually, you are correct there was no Gatling gun(s) at Gettysburg. The army did not purchased any of the guns, but Maj. Gen. Benjamin F. Butler, after a field test, purchased 12 for $1,000 each. They were used on the Petersburg front in 1864 and were apparently considered successful. That, however, was the only active Civil War service the guns saw; the Army did adopted them officially in 1866. With the advent of the automatic machine gun, the U.S. Army declared their Gatling guns obsolete in 1911, after 45 years of service to the U.S. Army.

I would love to see the report of these being brought on line and what we felt when they saw them in action!

It's possible. The Gatling gun was patented in 1862 and Gettysburg was in 1863. So I guess it's possible.

No. The first production model of the Gatling gun was not completed until 1866. The first real engagement it was used in, was the Spanish/American War when it was employed in Puerto Rico. The first time it was fired against troops, it jammed due to the servicer turning the handle too quickly.

From what I have read about that battle, no. Soldiers were slaughtering each other enough with the weapons they had. Gatling guns would have made the unbelievable carnage all that much worse.

The Gattling was probably not in service at Gettysburg

Yes and it won the battle with 30000 deaths attributed to it. Of course we don't want questions so we will change his story.
