Make them think they're getting a "good deal". If the item you're selling is actually $50, tell them that it's originally $65-$70, and that you'll give it to them for $50 if they buy it along with something else [that is worth about $10 or so]. When I used to work at this hotel, our Nightly rate was $104.99, and the weekly rate was $84.99, but we didn't tell that to our guests who inquired about our rates. They would call and say "can I have you're weekly rate?" We would say "We don't actually have a weekly rate, our standard rate is 104.99, but if you can guarantee that you'll be staying with us for 7 days then I can give you a discount and offer you 84.99, just keep it between me & you." And it worked like a moth to a flame, they would think that they were getting a $20 discount but really they were paying what they should be. If customers think that they're getting a better deal, then they'll be more tempted to make the purchase.

A good selling technique is firstly being convinced about what it is you are trying to sell. If you like it, love it and know what it is you can convince most people. Talk about what you know with a passion and it will sell.
