Sanya Richards of the USA won the IAAF womens athlete of the year in 2006, and ran a North American record of 48.70 in the WAF over 400m.

Asafa Powell of Jamaica won the IAAF mens athlete of the year. He equalled his 100m World Record of 9.77 twice. Both won the award by considerable margins.

Moglie...Xavier Carter ran 19.63 at Lusanne (and actually beat Gay, who ran 19.70), but Gay was the more consistent over the season, due to Carter being injured.

The mens 200m should be the one to watch this year - Tyson Gay, Wallace Spearmon, Xavier Carter, Francis Obwikwelu and Usain Bolt. Apparently, Asafa Powell is talking about running the 200 a bit more this year. He ran 19.90 last year.

True about Xavier but I only listed results from the World Athletics Finals meet.
